Chrysler rips ‘for sale’ sign off Dodge Viper business
By Greg Migliore | 07/10/09, 5:25 pm et
The Dodge Viper has received a reprieve.
After nearly a year of trying to sell the iconic sports car business, Chrysler said Friday it will continue to build the Viper SRT10.
Production was expected to end at the Connor Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit, known as the “Snake Pit,” in December.
But the new Chrysler has reversed its decision after a review of the company’s products, and top executives found the Viper to be a viable business going forward. The current lineup, including the ACR and competition versions, will continue.

Today's question:
Q: How does the Hyundai Elantra compare to a VW Jetta wagon? A Jetta diesel wagon looks enticing on paper, especially wuth fuel going up, but it seems there are still questions of quality.
A: The Jetta wagon is roughly the same size as the Elantra Touring. The space balance inside is different. Jetta has more cargo room and less passenger space. Consumer Reports recommends the sedan versions of both, though the Elantra has a better reliability rating. The VW diesel is new for '09, so it's too new to have a reliability track record but its pricing runs from $20k to $25k. The Elantra ranges from about $19k to $22k.
